On a Sunday night, the life of Scott Douglas Lanpher Sr., a 35-year-old Caucasian male, was tragically cut short at his home in Leicester, Vermont, on June 4, 2023. Authorities who responded to a 911 call about a disturbance on U.S. Route 7 shortly before 10 p.m. found Lanpher deceased at the scene. An autopsy later confirmed that he died from multiple gunshot wounds to the upper body, and his death was ruled a homicide.
The violent encounter also left Scott's younger brother, Larry Lanpher Jr., critically injured with gunshot wounds. He was rushed to Porter Medical Center before being airlifted to the University of Vermont Medical Center for treatment. In his obituary, Scott was remembered as a family protector, with one account stating he had sacrificed his life for his brother.
The investigation into the double shooting pointed to a targeted event, with law enforcement initially assuring the public that there was no broader threat. Court records later suggested the incident was drug-related. A significant break in the case came on August 10, 2023, when Zaquikon Roy, 35, of Brooklyn, New York, was arrested in Lewiston, Maine. He was identified as a suspect in the shooting and was initially taken into custody on a federal charge of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Authorities believe Roy fled to New York City after the shooting.
Another individual, Kimberly Bouchard, was also implicated as having been present at the scene of the crime. She was later arrested on drug trafficking charges. Court filings indicated she left the scene in a vehicle registered to her, which she later falsely reported as stolen. In subsequent developments, Larry Lanpher Jr. and his fiancée, Laryssa Dutton, were sentenced on federal drug trafficking charges, with a judge noting their continued involvement in drug activities even after the fatal shooting of Scott Lanpher.
