On a tragic day in May 2023, the life of 83-year-old White/Caucasian female Janet Harrison came to a violent end in her Johnston, Rhode Island home. She was found deceased on the morning of May 24, a victim of fatal gunshot wounds. The quiet suburban street was shattered by a string of violence that began as a dispute involving both her family and a neighbor.
The suspect in her death was identified as her own son, 52-year-old James Harrison, with whom she lived. On that Wednesday morning, events escalated rapidly. Police were initially called to the neighborhood following reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, they discovered a grim scene not only at the Harrison residence but also next door. Janet's neighbor, Thomas May, was also found shot and killed, and his 15-year-old daughter was seriously injured by gunfire.
After killing his mother and neighbor, and wounding the teenager, James Harrison fled the scene in his vehicle. This prompted a large-scale police search.
