On the night of October 28, 2023, 30-year-old Sreylakh Ros, a female resident of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was found inside a parked pickup truck on Hathaway Street in Providence. Alongside her was her partner, 29-year-old Brian Fernandez. Both had been fatally shot in what law enforcement would later describe as a targeted attack. The couple, who were parents to four children, were pronounced dead at the scene. While investigators discovered drugs in the vehicle, they did not immediately confirm if they were connected to the motive behind the killings.
The investigation into the double homicide led authorities to their first suspect a couple of weeks later. On November 9, 2023, 29-year-old Miguel Perez was taken into custody by police during a raid at a residence in Warwick, Rhode Island. The following day, Perez appeared in court and was formally charged with two counts of first-degree murder, among other offenses. He was subsequently ordered to be held without bail. Police indicated that Perez was known to the victims, but did not elaborate on the nature of their relationship.
A second individual was apprehended in connection with the murders shortly after Perez's arrest. On November 13, 2023, 28-year-old Tyler Freeman was arrested in Norton, Massachusetts. In addition to facing charges related to the homicides, Freeman was also charged with several firearms offenses.
In March of 2024, a grand jury returned indictments against both Miguel Perez and Tyler Freeman. The charges included two counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, and discharging a firearm while committing a crime of violence resulting in death. Perez was scheduled for arraignment in April, while Freeman awaited extradition from Massachusetts to face the charges against him in Rhode Island. The investigation into the circumstances that led to the deaths of Ros and Fernandez remained ongoing.
