On March 8, 1910, Officer Frank Horn Cloud, serving on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, responded on horseback to a domestic abuse incident. Upon arrival, he was ambushed and shot in the back by the suspect. Despite his injury, Officer Horn Cloud managed to ride to safety with the assistance of a neighbor.
