In the early evening of November 3, 2023, tragedy struck in Fairfield, Alabama, when 27-year-old Deandre Lamar Hayes was found suffering from a gunshot wound. The incident occurred in the 600 block of Jerry D. Coleman Road. Despite the efforts of first responders, Hayes succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was a male known to be goofy, silly, and funny, according to those who knew him.
The circumstances surrounding the shooting were initially unclear, but
the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office immediately launched an investigation into the homicide. Their efforts led to the identification of a suspect, and on November 7, 2023, an arrest was made in connection with the death of Deandre Lamar Hayes.
Fifty-one-year-old Michael Lee Cole was taken into custody and charged with murder. He was subsequently booked into the Bessemer County Jail, where he is being held without bond. While an arrest has been made, the investigation into the motive and the events leading up to the fatal shooting remain ongoing by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office.
