In the early morning hours of Thursday, May 3, 2007, a burst of gunfire shattered the predawn quiet at the intersection of Jefferson Street and Illinois Avenue, NW in Washington, D.C. Inside a vehicle passing through the intersection, 24-year-old Kevin Darnell Caldwell, a Black male, was struck by the bullets. The shooting, which occurred at approximately 1:30 a.m., would prove to be fatal for the young man.
