In the late hours of a Tuesday evening in Washington, D.C., a sequence of events unfolded that would end in the tragic death of 38-year-old Edward Eugene Hall Jr. On September 9, 2014, at approximately 11:07 pm, police responded to a report of a stabbing at the intersection of 1st and Brandywine Streets in the Southeast quadrant of the city. Upon arrival, officers discovered Hall suffering from multiple stab wounds. Emergency medical services rushed him to a local hospital in critical condition. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, the male victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day, on September 10, 2014.
The investigation into Hall's death saw a number of developments over the years. Initially, another man, 23-year-old Lennard Sweeney, was arrested and charged with first-degree felony murder in connection with the stabbing.
However, in a turn of events, the charges against Sweeney were later dropped by prosecutors, and the case remained under active investigation. This left the resolution of Hall's homicide in a state of uncertainty for a considerable period.
More than two years after the fatal stabbing, a breakthrough in the case was announced. On December 22, 2016, the Metropolitan Police Department made two arrests in connection with the murder of Edward Eugene Hall Jr. Deandre Lewis, who was 20 years old at the time of his arrest, and 27-year-old Ricardo Harris, both from Southeast D.C., were taken into custody. The two men were subsequently charged with first-degree felony murder while armed, bringing a new chapter to the long-standing investigation into the violent death of Hall.
