On March 4, 2008, 18-year-old Lauren Burk, a freshman at Auburn University in Alabama, was tragically murdered. That evening, she was kidnapped at gunpoint by Courtney Lockhart, a U.S. military veteran who had been dishonorably discharged. Lockhart forced Burk to undress and drove her around for approximately 30 minutes, during which he lamented about his personal hardships.
