In the early hours of a Monday morning, on August 18, 2008, the life of 17-year-old Shanee Dougherty was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. An African-American female, Shanee was in the 3600 block of 22nd Street, SE, at approximately 1:30 a.m. when she was fatally shot.
Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to the scene and discovered Shanee suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite the immediate attention of emergency responders, her injuries proved to be too severe, and she succumbed to them at the scene. Her death was quickly classified as a homicide, launching a lengthy and still-ongoing investigation by the department's Homicide Branch.
To date, the case surrounding Shanee Dougherty's death remains unsolved, and no arrests have been made.
The Metropolitan Police Department has continued to seek assistance from the public in hopes of gathering new information that could lead to a breakthrough in the case. A reward of up to $25,000 has been offered for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for her murder.
