On September 11, 2016, in Eclectic, Alabama, 37-year-old April Diane Owenby Holton was found critically injured from a gunshot wound to the head in the master bedroom of her estranged husband's home. Her husband, Mike Holton, a former mayor of Eclectic, was discovered deceased at the scene with a fatal gunshot wound to the head. April was transported to a hospital but succumbed to her injuries the following day.
