In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Tuskegee, Alabama, a dispute at a local business tragically escalated, ending the life of 26-year-old Mikayce Parker. On January 27, 2019, the young Black man from Midland was fatally shot following an argument at a venue on MLK Highway. The incident, which occurred just after 1:00 a.m., cut short a young life and led to a swift response from law enforcement.
The investigation quickly focused on 30-year-old Maurice Demond Davis of Tuskegee.
In a significant development, Davis turned himself in to the authorities following the shooting. He was subsequently arrested and faced serious charges, including murder and illegal possession of a firearm, and was held at the Macon County Jail. The Tuskegee Police Department identified Parker as the victim and Davis as the suspect in the weekend violence.
The legal process moved forward, revealing that Davis had prior felony convictions. This history prompted prosecutors to seek a sentence under habitual offender statutes. In April 2024, the case culminated in a jury trial in Macon County. After a deliberation of just 53 minutes, the jury found Maurice Demond Davis guilty of both murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm. His sentencing was scheduled for the following month.
