On July 16, 2019, 72-year-old Janice Diane Ferguson Ballard was fatally shot during a home invasion at her residence on Elkwood Section Road near Ardmore, Alabama. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when three men—Khalib Holden, Adrian Miguel Lopez, and Quintin Sincere Courtney—entered her home intending to purchase drugs. An altercation ensued between the intruders and another individual present, leading to gunfire that struck and killed Ballard.
