On a Wednesday morning in Green-hill, Alabama, the community was shaken by the violent death of 57-year-old Randall Steve Bobo. On September 18, 2019, law enforcement officers were called to a residence on County Road 130, near the Tennessee state line, where they discovered Mr. Bobo deceased. He had been fatally shot.
The investigation quickly focused on his ex-wife, Peggy Sue Hall. Hall was present at the property when deputies arrived and was taken into custody.
Evidence gathered at the scene and statements from others led to her arrest on the same day. She was subsequently charged with capital murder. At the time of the incident, it was reported that two of Randall Bobo's grandchildren may have been present in the home.
The motive for the killing appeared to stem from a family dispute involving their son, Randall Coty Bobo. Investigators learned that Coty Bobo, who was incarcerated at the time, had asked his mother to kill his father. His anger reportedly stemmed from his father having him arrested for stealing his truck. This request led to a conspiracy between mother and son to commit the murder.
In December 2022, the legal proceedings came to a conclusion. Peggy Sue Hall, then 57, pleaded guilty to the charge of capital murder. She was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. Her son, Randall Coty Bobo, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder for his role in planning the crime. He received a 20-year sentence.
