Lavor Chante Johnson, a 43-year-old Black/African American man from Century, Florida, was fatally shot on the night of December 15, 2022, in Frisco City, Alabama. The incident, which also left another individual with serious injuries, marked a violent end to what should have been an ordinary day. The initial aftermath was filled with uncertainty for Johnson's family, who reported difficulties in getting information from local law enforcement in Monroe County.
In the weeks and months that
followed, the investigation into Johnson's death slowly progressed. The persistence of his family and the work of law enforcement eventually led to a breakthrough. A Monroe County grand jury was presented with evidence from the investigation and subsequently handed down indictments against multiple individuals, breathing a sense of hope for justice into a grieving family.
Three young men were identified as suspects in the fatal shooting. Jayden Devon Jenkins, a 20-year-old from Frisco City, was the first to be charged with murder and attempted murder. Following him, authorities also indicted Akeem Paul Anthony Davis Jr., 24, a fellow resident of Frisco City, on a murder charge. The net of justice widened further in January 2024 when 21-year-old Jayden Constantine Jackson of Century, Florida, was taken into custody after also being indicted for murder in connection with Johnson's death.
