On the evening of January 27, 2023, 46-year-old Jamel Vetal Pendleton was fatally shot at his residence in Mount Vernon, Alabama. Around 9:30 p.m., Pendleton responded to a knock at his door on St. Stephens Road. Upon opening it, he was met with gunfire. Despite being wounded, Pendleton managed to retreat inside, urging his family to lock the door before collapsing. Family members immediately called 911, but Pendleton succumbed to his injuries.
