On August 8, 2024, 16-year-old Javion Gary, a student-athlete at Loachapoka High School, was fatally shot near a basketball court on Union Camp Road in Notasulga, Alabama. Another 17-year-old student sustained injuries during the incident and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA) initiated a death investigation at the request of the Notasulga Police Department.
