On July 18, 2015, at approximately 1:20 a.m., Anchorage police responded to reports of gunfire at the Alano Club, located at 3103 Spenard Road. Upon arrival, officers discovered 18-year-old Alex Thanapong Yu with a gunshot wound; he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Alano Club, known for hosting sober events, was the site of a gathering that night when the shooting occurred.
