On July 17, 2016, 31-year-old Joseph Peterson was found dead from a gunshot wound in a residence in Ivanof Bay, a remote village on the Alaska Peninsula. The Alaska State Troopers received a report of the shooting around 1:40 a.m. and responded to the scene, initiating an investigation into the circumstances surrounding Peterson's death.
