On February 27, 2024, 41-year-old Nels Nusunginya Aamodt, originally from Utqiagvik, Alaska, was found in a Soldotna hotel room with a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Hotel staff at the Aspen Hotel had requested a wellness check after being unable to contact him and expressing concern for his well-being.
