On May 1, 2023, at approximately 6:05 a.m., officers from the Gardendale Police Department arrived at 83 School Street in Cordova, Alabama, to execute a narcotics search warrant. Upon their arrival, 47-year-old Johnny Karris allegedly began firing a weapon at the officers. In response, the officers returned fire, fatally injuring Karris, who was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
