On June 16, 2022, during a "Boomers Potluck" dinner at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, 84-year-old Jane Easter Pounds was among the victims of a tragic shooting. The incident occurred when a 70-year-old man, identified as Robert Findlay Smith, who had previously attended services at the church, opened fire during the gathering.
