In the autumn of 2021, a quiet community in west Jefferson County, Alabama, was unsettled by a violent crime that cut short the life of one of its residents. On October 5, 2021, 48-year-old Jonathan Wayne Jones was found deceased inside his home, the victim of an apparent shooting. The discovery prompted an immediate investigation by Jefferson County Sheriff's detectives, who soon determined that a struggle had likely preceded the fatal gunshots.
