On May 17, 2021, at approximately 1:00 a.m., 68-year-old Sherman Edward Cornette was fatally shot at his residence in the 100 block of Creel Street in Midfield, Alabama. Responding officers discovered Cornette suffering from a gunshot wound; he was pronounced dead at the scene. The Midfield Police Department initiated a homicide investigation, seeking information from the public to identify potential suspects.
