A 21 year old woman is shot on the front porch of her Denver, CO home
In the summer of 2010, a young Black woman's life was tragically cut short in Denver, Colorado. Twenty-one-year-old Katsina Lynnea Roybal, a student at Metropolitan State College of Denver with a bright future ahead, was known for her kind heart and sweet smile. She had taken on the responsibility of raising her two younger sisters and was a beloved member of her large extended family. Her life, full of promise and dedication to her loved ones, was extinguished on the front porch of her East Denver home.
On the warm evening of July 12, 2010, at approximately 10:00 p.m., Katsina was sitting on her porch with a male companion. Their peaceful evening was shattered when two unidentified men approached them and opened fire. The assailants fired several shots, striking both Katsina and the man before fleeing the scene into the night. When authorities arrived, they found Katsina unresponsive; she was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head. Her male friend survived, having sustained a gunshot wound to his leg. He managed to run for help and call the police before returning to the scene.
The investigation that followed revealed that the shooters may have used as many as three different firearms, indicating a chaotic and violent attack. Despite the presence of a witness and the collection of evidence from the scene, the two suspects were never identified, and no arrests have been made in the case. The motive for the shooting remains unknown, leaving a grieving family and community with unanswered questions.
More than a decade later, the murder of Katsina Roybal remains a cold case. Her family continues to seek justice for her untimely death, and a reward is still offered for any information that could lead to the arrest and conviction of the individuals responsible for ending the life of a young woman who was a student, a caregiver to her sisters, and a cherished family member.
