A woman is found nude and strangled to death in a sand quarry On April 16, 1989, the body of 47-year-old Barbara Jean Hagy was discovered in a remote area of Pugh Mountain in Smyth County, Virginia. Her beaten, nude body was found at the entrance to a sand quarry, with sand covering her head and neck. The cause of death was determined to be asphyxiation from blunt force trauma.
