A store clerk is gunned down during a robbery On the afternoon of September 2, 1971, a 30-year-old Caucasian female named Carolyn Yvonne Kingston was at her job as a clerk at Natter's Market in Salt Lake City, Utah, with her two small children present in the store. An armed man entered the market, located at 3065 S. 700 E., with the intention of robbing it. During the robbery, the assailant shot both Carolyn and a 24-year-old deliveryman, Michael Preston "Mike" Bown, in the head with a. 22 caliber firearm.
The gunman also attempted to shoot a second deliveryman, but his weapon failed to fire.
While Michael Bown died from his injuries on the day of the shooting, Carolyn Kingston was rushed to a local hospital. She survived the initial attack and underwent numerous surgeries over the next two years to address the severe complications from the gunshot wound. Despite the extensive medical efforts, she ultimately succumbed to her injuries on October 15, 1973, at the age of 35.
The suspect was described as a male with a medium complexion, dark hair, standing approximately 5'8" tall and weighing around 150 pounds. The armed robbery netted about $100. Despite an investigation into the brutal double homicide, no arrests have ever been made in connection with the murders of Carolyn Kingston and Michael Bown. The case remains cold and unsolved, and the identity of the shooter is still unknown to the public.
