Lamar Mathis, a 41-year-old Black man, tragically lost his life on October 15, 2013, in what authorities have determined to be a case of arson and homicide. On that day, the Denver Fire Department responded to a house fire at 2614 W. 24th Avenue. Upon extinguishing the blaze, firefighters made the grim discovery of Mr. Mathis's body inside the home.
Investigators quickly concluded that the fire was deliberately set, leading them to classify Mr. Mathis's death as a murder.
The case has since been turned over to the Denver Police Department's Cold Case Unit, which continues to seek answers and justice for Mr. Mathis. Despite the passage of time, no arrests have been made in connection with his death, and no suspects have been publicly identified.
The Denver Police Department continues to appeal to the public for any information that might lead to a breakthrough in this unsolved case. A reward of up to $2,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and prosecution of the individual or individuals responsible for the death of Lamar Mathis.
