A young woman's body is found in the Red River 6 days after she vanished Jennifer Harris, 28, disappeared from Bonham, Texas, on May 12, 2002. She was last seen alive when she left her grandmother’s home, reportedly telling a family member that she was meeting someone. Her vehicle, a green Jeep, was found abandoned near Lake Bonham the next day, prompting a missing person's investigation. Tragically, on May 18, 2002, Jennifer's body was found by fishermen floating in the Red River.
Her body was in a state of decomposition, and it was noted that her uterus was missing. Initially, this led to speculation that the removal might be connected to an attempt to conceal a pregnancy, but later investigations suggested that animals in the river were likely responsible for this damage. Despite various leads, her cause of death was listed as "homicidal violence," but specifics were never conclusively determined.
Jennifer was well-liked in her community and had been running a wellness center after earning her degree in nutrition. At the time of her death, she was reportedly in touch with her ex-husband, Rob Holman, as well as an ex-boyfriend, James Hamilton. Both men were initially questioned by police as persons of interest but were ultimately ruled out of suspicion. Rob Holman claimed to have been driving at the time, although he could not produce an alibi. James Hamilton also had an alibi, confirmed by a polygraph test. Rumors circulated about potential suspects, and an anonymous tip even pointed to a local resident who had been seen near the river with suspicious items. However, these leads did not result in any arrests, and evidence was further compromised when some of it was damaged by water leakage while in storage.
The case remains unsolved, and law enforcement efforts, including the involvement of Texas Rangers and media coverage from CBS’s “48 Hours,” have not led to an arrest. The Harris family and others in the community have continued their fight for justice, but Jennifer’s killer has never been found. Her father, Jerry Harris, spent years advocating for his daughter’s case but, tragically, died by suicide outside the sheriff’s office in 2024, leaving a deeply painful legacy of unresolved grief.
