On July 22, 2008, Javier Cortez, 37, was killed in a brutal home invasion in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. when intruders broke into Cortez's home in the 8100 block of Lenore Street. Javier and his mother, Maria Cruz, who was visiting from Veracruz, Mexico, were sleeping when the attackers kicked in the back door.
