Corey Cumby, aged 34, was tragically killed on November 8, 2009, in San Antonio, Texas, in what was described as a drive-by shooting incident. Cumby was driving southbound on Interstate 35 North, near Walzem Road, at approximately 3:15 a.m. after leaving a nightclub. According to reports, a black four-door sedan pulled up beside his car in the right-hand lane, and a passenger opened fire.
The shots caused Cumby to lose control of his vehicle, which then swerved off the road and into a ditch near Eisenhauer Road. Authorities found Cumby dead in his car when they arrived at the scene.
Following the incident, the San Antonio police launched an investigation and sought public assistance to gather more information on those involved. A warrant was later issued for Latray Whitley, a suspect believed to be connected to the homicide. Whitley was associated with a rival gang, which may have been a factor in the incident. Additionally, Hollis Nealy was arrested as he was suspected to have been the driver of the vehicle involved in the shooting.
The case drew significant attention, and Crime Stoppers offered a reward for information that could lead to an arrest or indictment related to the crime. Despite some arrests, the community continues to call for anyone with more information to come forward to help bring closure to Cumby's family and ensure all those involved are held accountable.
