A man is murdered during a botched robbery attempt In the autumn of 2016, Charles Polzin, a 50-year-old male, found his life tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Denver, Colorado. On the evening of November 8th, Polzin, accompanied by his son, traveled from their home in Loveland with the intention of selling a large quantity of marijuana. They had arranged to meet with individuals who had expressed interest in the purchase.
The meeting, however, was a setup for a robbery.
At the arranged location, Joshua Binns, one of the individuals they were scheduled to meet, produced a. 40-caliber handgun and opened fire. The sudden eruption of violence left Charles Polzin dead at the scene and his son seriously wounded. The perpetrators fled, leaving a scene of bloodshed in their wake.
The investigation into the deadly shooting led to the identification and arrest of four individuals. Joshua Binns, the alleged shooter, was charged with two counts of first-degree murder, felony murder, first-degree assault, aggravated robbery, and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. Three other accomplices, Seth Michael Binns, Ryan Arellano, and Mackenzie Fay, were also taken into custody and faced charges of felony murder and aggravated robbery for their roles in planning the fatal robbery.
In the ensuing legal proceedings, the accomplices, Seth Binns, Ryan Arellano, and Mackenzie Fay, pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated robbery. In March 2018, Joshua Binns, the gunman in the tragic incident, pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. His plea agreement came with the prospect of a prison sentence of up to 48 years. The three other defendants were scheduled to be sentenced in April of that same year, facing stipulated prison sentences between 16 and 32 years for their involvement in the marijuana deal that turned into a deadly robbery.
