Michael Glenn Milligan, a 28-year-old White man who found joy on the slopes of the Rocky Mountains, was killed on the evening of November 30, 2023, in his Capitol Hill neighborhood in Denver, Colorado. Born in Virginia and a graduate of Cascia Hall Preparatory School in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Michael had moved to Denver in 2016. He was known for his vibrant passion, his love of nature, and his varied interests, which recently included studying financial markets.
He cherished his life in Colorado, where he was an avid snowboarder and hiker.
The fatal encounter unfolded on the 800 block of North Gaylord Street, near Cheesman Park. Investigators determined that Michael and a friend had arranged to sell four pounds of marijuana to two men. The meeting, however, was a setup for a robbery. When the men tried to rob him, Michael attempted to drive away from the scene. He was then shot inside his vehicle. His car crashed about half a block away, and he was found suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, he did not survive.
Denver police responded to reports of gunfire around 6:22 p.m. and launched an investigation that quickly led them to two suspects. By tracking a phone number and using an eyewitness identification, detectives identified Travis Jamahal Jackson and arrested him on December 7, 2023, just one week after the shooting. A second man, Armoni Angelo Patterson, was also identified as a co-defendant in the case.
The case proceeded through the legal system, resulting in convictions for both men. In July 2026, Armoni Angelo Patterson, 25, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit murder for his role in the killing. The following month, in August 2026, he was sentenced to 45 years in prison.
His co-defendant, Travis Jamahal Jackson, 41, went to trial. In July 2026, a Denver jury found him guilty of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, attempted murder, and assault. For the first-degree murder conviction, Jackson faces a mandatory sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole. As of his co-defendant’s sentencing in August 2026, the case is considered closed.
