Rolando Ponce, age 40, was killed in a drive-by shooting on July 2, 2013, in San Antonio, Texas. The incident occurred outside his home on Hicks Avenue on the city’s East Side. Ponce was waiting in his front yard for contractors to arrive when the assailant or assailants fired multiple shots, striking him in the torso. San Antonio police responded to the scene shortly after the attack. Unfortunately, Ponce was pronounced dead at the scene, and no suspects were immediately taken into custody.
The investigation into Ponce’s death indicated that the attack was not random. According to Police Chief William McManus, there were some leads that pointed towards a targeted attack, suggesting that Ponce might have known his attacker. Witnesses at the scene, including a next-door neighbor, described the emotional aftermath. The victim's eldest son was heard yelling for help after finding his father shot.
