On May 18, 2014, 26-year-old Tyreal Breaux Sr. was fatally shot in Houston, Texas. The incident occurred in the 14600 block of South Main Street around 4:30 p.m. Breaux, along with 20-year-old Desmond Akens, attempted to rob Courtney Lyons during a narcotics transaction in a parking lot. In response, Lyons produced a firearm and shot both Breaux and Akens. Breaux was pronounced dead at the scene, while Akens was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital, where he later died. A third suspect involved in the attempted robbery was not injured.

Following the shooting, Lyons fled the scene in a dark grey, early 2000s Honda Accord. He was later identified as the shooter, and the case was initially referred to a Harris County grand jury. On December 13, 2014, Lyons was arrested without incident and charged with murder and deadly conduct.
