Trenton Harris, a 26-year-old resident of Houston, Texas, was killed on April 11, 2016. The incident was part of a broader context of escalating domestic violence. Jarvis Earl Hickerson, who was Harris's girlfriend's partner at the time, was later convicted for the murder. The crime took place shortly after Harris’s girlfriend, Amalia Alexander, filed a protective order against Hickerson for assaulting her.

On the day of her disappearance, surveillance footage captured Hickerson leaving her apartment early in the morning, and subsequent investigation led authorities to a shallow grave in Montgomery County, where Alexander's remains were found two months later. Evidence, including cell phone records placing Hickerson near the site, played a crucial role in his conviction. He was ultimately sentenced to life in prison without parole for capital murder, ensuring he would never be released.

During the trial, Hickerson’s violent history was highlighted, including an incident where he tampered with his GPS monitor while out on bond and assaulted another girlfriend. The court ruled that Hickerson had committed the murder in retaliation after his efforts to intimidate Alexander into dropping charges against him failed. His sentencing was meant to reflect the seriousness of domestic violence and its tragic potential consequences, emphasizing the importance of responding seriously to all allegations of such behavior.
