On August 30, 2016, the body of Roland Pantoja, 34, was found near a set of railroad tracks in the 10000 block of Quintana Road in San Antonio, Texas. Pantoja had been stabbed to death, and investigators quickly identified that multiple individuals were involved in his killing. The incident was reportedly linked to a dispute over a drug transaction involving David Ortiz, 30, and Ignacio Jimenez Jr., 52.
Ortiz allegedly accused Pantoja of having run over Jimenez with a vehicle a few days before the murder. This accusation escalated into a violent confrontation during which Ortiz pistol-whipped Pantoja and began stabbing him, with Jimenez joining in the attack while another individual, Robert Anthony Casarez, allegedly stood watch.
The suspects involved in Pantoja’s killing attempted to cover their crime by wrapping his body in a blanket, loading it into an SUV, and then disposing of it by the railroad tracks where it was eventually found by a passerby. Ortiz and Jimenez were subsequently arrested on murder charges, while Casarez, who was also believed to be involved, evaded capture for some time.
Police indicated that Pantoja had gone with another individual to purchase drugs from Ortiz when the altercation began. Witness testimonies and the subsequent investigation described the brutal and deliberate nature of the attack.
