On November 30, 2016, the skeletal remains of 32-year-old Amalia Alexander, a Hispanic female, were discovered in a shallow grave in Montgomery County, Texas. She had been reported missing on September 20, 2016, after failing to appear at work. Evidence indicated that she was last seen leaving her apartment complex with her ex-boyfriend, 32-year-old Jarvis Hickerson, an African American male, on September 19, 2016.
Surveillance footage from her apartment complex showed Hickerson's truck entering and exiting the premises on the night of her disappearance, with a large object visible in the bed of the truck. Further investigation revealed signs of a struggle inside Alexander's apartment.
Prior to her disappearance, Alexander had obtained a protective order against Hickerson following an incident on September 12, 2016, where he assaulted her. Hickerson was subsequently arrested for violating this protective order and, while in custody, was charged with Alexander's murder. In 2024, Hickerson was convicted of capital murder and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole. During the trial, Alexander's family recounted Hickerson's possessive behavior and his history of domestic violence towards her. Notably, during the family's victim impact statements, Hickerson displayed a lack of remorse, reportedly laughing and making dismissive comments. This case underscores the tragic consequences of domestic violence and the importance of protective measures for victims.
