On December 12, 2016, Israel Gonzalez, a 32-year-old from Houston, was shot and killed following a road rage incident on the Southwest Freeway. Gonzalez was returning home with his fiancée, Maribel Cavazos, after celebrating a joint bachelor and bachelorette party at Diablo Loco Sports Bar. The couple was driving on the inbound lanes of the freeway when another vehicle, a Nissan Versa, struck their car in a minor collision.
