On July 5, 2012, Fredrick Poplar, aged 29, was fatally shot near Le Moyne-Owen College in Memphis, Tennessee. He was on his way to attend a basketball event as part of the Bluff City Classic tournament. After being shot, Poplar was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter. He was a father of four, and his death has left his family seeking justice.
