In the early morning hours of Monday, November 21, 2016, a dispute outside of a nightclub in Memphis, Tennessee, tragically cut short the life of 20-year-old Deangelo Gray. The young man, identified as a patron of James Lounge on Summer Avenue in the Binghampton neighborhood, became the city's 200th homicide victim of that year.
According to police reports, a disturbance that began inside the lounge spilled out into the exterior, nearly escalating into a larger fight.
As security and other patrons moved back inside the establishment, a single gunshot was heard. Shortly after, Gray was discovered on the side of the building in the 600 block of Hillcrest. He had sustained a gunshot wound.
Emergency services were called to the scene, and Gray was rushed to Regional One Health for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical staff, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The Memphis Police Department launched an investigation into the shooting.
At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with Deangelo Gray's death, and no suspects were publicly identified. Authorities urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and contact Crime Stoppers. The investigation into the homicide remains ongoing.
