In the spring of 2009, the life of Glidie Cobbs, a 49-year-old Black man from the Fairywood neighborhood of Pittsburgh, was tragically cut short. On the evening of May 18th, what should have been a normal night at his residence in the 2000 block of Broadhead Fording Road turned into a scene of violence. Three individuals broke into his home with the intent to rob him.
During the course of the robbery, the intruders shot Cobbs in the stomach.
Despite their initial motive, the perpetrators fled the scene after ransacking the house, apparently taking nothing of value with them. The gunshot wound proved to be fatal, and Glidie Cobbs died at his home. The event left his family and friends to grapple with the senselessness of his death.
In the aftermath of the homicide, an investigation was launched to identify and apprehend the three individuals responsible for the fatal home invasion. However, the search for suspects proved to be challenging. As of several months following the incident, no arrests had been made in connection with the murder of Glidie Cobbs, and no charges had been filed. The case remained an unsolved act of violence, leaving a community to mourn and await justice.
