On November 30, 2009, Derrick Carter, a 46-year-old Black male from Philadelphia, was tragically killed. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. in the 2000 block of Dickenson Street in South Philadelphia, where police responded to reports of gunshots. Upon their arrival, officers discovered Carter with gunshot wounds to his head and chest. He was pronounced dead at the scene at 5:12 p.m.
Derrick Carter was a resident of the 2800 block of South 82d Street in the Eastwick section of Southwest
Philadelphia. In the immediate aftermath of the shooting, police had not identified any suspects or a motive for the killing.
Despite the passage of time, Derrick Carter's murder remains unsolved. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection with his death, and the investigation continues. The Philadelphia Police Department still hopes for new leads to emerge and encourages anyone with information to come forward to help bring justice to his family and community.
