In the early hours of a summer holiday weekend in Philadelphia, the life of 29-year-old Samuel Betancourt was tragically cut short. On Saturday, July 2, 2011, police found Betancourt with a gunshot wound. He was rushed to Temple University Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries shortly after his arrival. His death was one of several homicides that marked a violent start to the Fourth of July weekend in the city that year.
