In the late afternoon of a summer day in Pittsburgh's Homewood neighborhood, a dispute tragically cut short the life of Glenn 'Pookie' Walker Jr. The 39-year-old contractor, a father of four, was working on a vacant house on Albion Street on July 22, 2014, with his childhood friend and business partner, Raheem Watson. An argument broke out just before 4:30 p.m.
involving Walker, Watson, and at least one other individual who was at the location to discuss the work being done on the two-story dwelling.
The disagreement escalated to gunfire, and neighbors reported hearing numerous shots. When the violence subsided, Glenn Walker Jr. was left lying in the middle of the street with multiple gunshot wounds. A gun that had been fired was found next to his body. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries at the scene. His friend, Raheem Watson, was also injured in the shooting, suffering a wound to his eye for which he later underwent surgery.
In the aftermath of the shooting, Walker's mother, Nancy Walker, remembered her son as a good man who was loved by everyone and had no known enemies. She and other residents of the neighborhood, which had been undergoing significant renovation, were deeply shaken by the violent act. Pittsburgh police investigators began searching for the third person who was present during the argument. At the time of the initial reports, no arrests had been made in connection with the shooting, and police were asking for anyone with information to come forward.
