In the North Philadelphia neighborhood he knew so well, Jason Conley, a 38-year-old former Marine with a love for life and a deep devotion to his only son, was found lying on the ground in front of a home on the 2900 block of West Oakdale Street on September 27, 2014. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds throughout his body and did not survive his injuries.
Known affectionately as “J” to his friends and family, Conley was a man known for his sense of humor and his love of sports, particularly football and basketball which he often played with friends in the neighborhood.
Born on the 4th of July in 1976 at Walter Reid Army Hospital in Washington, D.C., Jason had a personality that often made him the center of attention. After graduating from Delaware Valley private school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps for two years, a joyous occasion for his family who witnessed his graduation from Parris Island. A father to his son, Khalil, whose name he chose because it meant 'friend and companion,' Conley cherished his role as a parent. One of his last outings was a trip to the beach with his son, a day he spoke of until his final day.
More than a decade after his death, Jason Conley's murder remains unsolved. No suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with his shooting. The Philadelphia Police Department continues to seek information regarding his case and a $20,000 reward is being offered for information that leads to the conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death.
