On July 3, 2016, Asir Brown, a 16-year-old boy, was shot in the back in a drive-by shooting while attending a family barbecue in the Grays Ferry section of Philadelphia. The shooting occurred around midnight, at the rear of a residence on the 1800 block of South 31st Street, where several family members had gathered for a pre-Independence Day cookout.
