In the summer of 2016, a street in the Fairhill section of North Philadelphia became the final scene in the life of 18-year-old Joel Montanez. On the night of Wednesday, July 27th, violence erupted on the 2700 block of North Darien Street, leaving the young man with multiple gunshot wounds. When police responded to reports of a person with a gun at approximately 11:20 p.m., they found Montanez on the sidewalk. Medics who arrived at the scene pronounced him dead.
