Khalil Shoatz, a 25-year-old resident of West Philadelphia, was fatally shot on July 29, 2016, dying the next morning at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. He was well-known in his community for his generosity, especially towards children. Earlier that summer, he paid the registration fees for several local children who wanted to join a football team but whose families couldn't afford the costs.
