On a Wednesday evening, the 12th of October, 2016, tragedy struck on the 500 block of East Cheltenham Avenue in Philadelphia. At approximately 11:04 p.m., the night's quiet was shattered by the sound of gunfire. When Philadelphia Police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered 19-year-old Cameron Jeter lying on the sidewalk. He was a Black male who resided on the 5900 block of Palmetto Street.
Paramedics from the Philadelphia Fire Department were called to the scene, but it was too
late; Cameron Jeter was pronounced dead from his injuries. The violence of that night did not end with him. A second victim, a 20-year-old Black male, was also found at the scene, having sustained a gunshot wound to his back. Officers quickly transported the injured man to Albert Einstein Medical Center for treatment.
In the wake of the shooting, the Philadelphia Police Department opened an investigation into the death of Cameron Jeter. As of now, the case remains unsolved, with no arrests made and no suspects publicly identified. Authorities continue to seek information from the public, hoping that even a small detail might lead to a breakthrough in the case and bring justice for Cameron and his loved ones.
