In the Northern Philadelphia neighborhood, on November 11, 2016, a 34-year-old Black man named Hezekiah Mccloud, also known as Jeremiah, was fatally shot multiple times. The shooting occurred next to a residence at 3816 North 18th Street. Responding officers found two witnesses at the scene who described the shooter as a light-skinned African-American.
The investigation into Mccloud's death led authorities to identify a suspect.
An arrest warrant was issued for Raynerdo Jones, and on April 12, 2017, he was located and apprehended by a homicide detective with the Fugitive Unit at 1300 Erie Avenue and Old York Road, roughly twelve blocks from where the shooting had taken place. At the time of his arrest, Jones was attempting to conceal distinctive facial tattoos with make-up.
Raynerdo Jones was subsequently charged with the murder of Hezekiah Mccloud. After a jury trial, he was convicted of first-degree murder, firearms not to be carried without a license, carrying firearms on public streets or public property in Philadelphia, and possessing instruments of a crime. On April 25, 2018, Jones was sentenced to life in prison for the murder of Hezekiah Mccloud.
